Brendan Cheong serves as the head of IP at Nutromics, a mature-stage venture-backed MedTech company. In this role, he oversees the company’s IP function, including leading and establishing the IP department, setting and executing strategic initiatives, and mitigating risks. Mr Cheong sits with the Nutromics senior and executive leadership teams to guide commercial and technology development, negotiate and establish partnerships, protect the company’s IP, and support the commercialisation and deployment of the Nutromics technology. Mr Cheong’s career in intellectual property spans over 20 years. He was up until recently principal IP counsel for multinational mining giant Rio Tinto, and has previously worked for Australian G8 universities and private practice firms in Osaka, Sydney, and Brisbane. Mr Cheong is an Australian patent and trademark attorney and holds a bachelors degree in computer systems engineering, a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and computer science, a masters degree in industrial property, and a masters degree in business administration. For the last 5 years, he has also been a director and council member of the Institute of Patent and Trademark Attorneys of Australia.
