Chen Wenping is managing partner of the intellectual property department at King & Wood. He earned his BSc in biochemistry (Shanghai Medical Science University, 1990) and MSc in bio-pharmaceutics (Peking Union Medical College, 1993). Joining the firm in 2001, Mr Chen specialises in life sciences and chemical IP, covering biopharmaceuticals, medical devices and advanced materials. He develops full-lifecycle patent strategies aligned with clients’ business and demands, focusing on gene editing, nucleic acid therapeutics and medicinal chemistry. He handled landmark cases including a 2017 Supreme People’s Court Top 10 IP Case and multiple key patent re-examination disputes. He won a full victory for a Chinese firm in an early US ITC Section 337 proceeding, with proven track records in patent ownership litigation. Ranked a Leading Individual by Chambers, he featured in ALB’s 2019 Top 15 Chinese IP Lawyers and is recommended as a leading patent individual in the IAM Patent 1000.
