Former Chief Judge Scott R. Boalick recently retired from the USPTO after serving over 18 years on the Board. He was the longest serving Chief Judge of the PTAB, and also served as Director of the Central Reexamination Unit. Prior to joining the Board, he was a patent attorney with the Department of the Navy, an associate at Fish & Richardson, and a law clerk to the Honorable Alvin A. Schall of the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Prior to his legal career, Chief Judge Boalick worked as a radar systems engineer and served on active duty as an officer in the U.S. Navy. He earned a J.D. from the Georgetown University Law Center, and both a M.S.E. in Systems Engineering and a B.S.E. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania.
