Jan Ellsberger is director-general of ETSI and a globally recognised ICT leader with over 30 years of experience across research and innovation, standardisation, policy, and strategy in the telecommunications and automotive sectors. From 2000 to 2012, he led Ericsson’s global standardisation operations, contributing significantly to the development of key industry frameworks. He has held senior roles in major industry associations, including 3GPP, 5GAA, ERTICO and the Horizon Europe CCAM Association, gaining extensive experience across industry, public policy and standards ecosystems. Since his election in April 2024, he has been driving ETSI’s strategic evolution, promoting globally relevant, market-driven ICT standards aligned with European priorities and values. Working closely with European institutions and international partners, he supports Europe’s digital leadership, competitiveness and innovation, while fostering open, inclusive collaboration to ensure standards remain a trusted foundation for sustainable technological progress.
