Eelco Bergsma is assertion director at Ericsson and a patent litigation specialist with experience spanning private practice and in-house strategic litigation. At a top-tier law firm in the Netherlands, Eelco was a partner with active involvement in proceedings before the Unified Patent Court during its first two years of existence. During that time, he contributed to the development of early UPC case law and gained practical experience in the strategic, procedural and technical dimensions of European patent disputes. In 2025, Eelco brought his almost 15 years of experience as a lawyer to Ericsson to become director assertion. From this position, he is involved in developing and executing Ericsson’s global litigation strategy, which requires simultaneously managing litigation projects in line with Ericsson’s ultimate goals and strategies, not only in the Unified Patent Court but also in other key areas of the world, such as Africa and South East Asia.
