Daniel Ackerman is senior director of global intellectual property enforcement for the Alibaba Group. He is based in Washington, D.C. He was previously the U.S. Justice Department’s International Computer Hacking and Intellectual Property Adviser (ICHIP) for Latin America and the Caribbean for six years, first at the U.S. Consulate General in São Paulo, Brazil, from September 2016 until September 2020, and then at the U.S. Embassy in Panama City, Panama, until September 2022, when he joined the Alibaba Group. He received the Department’s Assistant Attorney General Award for Distinguished Service for his work as an ICHIP. He was also an Assistant United States Attorney for the Central District of California from May 2008 until September 2016. He graduated from the University of Southern California Law School and Columbia University in New York.
